The Hsan Daw Twin Pavilion was named after the well-known “Hsan Daw (Hair Relics) Well,” where sacred hair relics of the Buddha, obtained around 103 Mahā Sakkarāja (approximately 600 BC), were enshrined. Before the construction of the Shwedagon Pagoda, the hair relics were washed with water in this well, which came to be known as the “Hsan Daw Well.” Later, the well was covered with brickwork, and a pavilion was built over it. Because of this history, the pavilion is called the “Hsan Daw Twin Pavilion.” It is also recognized as Wonder No. 4 among the Nine Wonders of the Shwedagon Pagoda.
