The rules and notices announced by the Board of Trustees of Shwedagon Pagoda to be followed by the pilgrims
Notice Prohibitions
2. Flying of small unmanned aerial vehicles and small Remote Control System vehicles on the Shwedagon Pagoda and within the sacred grounds are strictly prohibited.
3. Obscene behavior and TikTok videos are prohibited on Shwedagon Pagoda Square.
4. Pilgrim women are requested not to attend wearing tights, which are unseemly against Myanmar culture and tradition.
5.If you go to the square, you must not wear socks, shoes and slippers, do not wear short skirts or pints, Do not wear wide meek.
Foreigner admission fee rates
- The entrance fee is Ks 20,000/- (exactly twenty thousand Kyats) per foreigner visiting Shwedagon Pagoda.
- Foreigners who are embassy employees in Myanmar with a Shwedagon Pagoda permission cards will be charged Ks 10,000/- ( if they visit the Shwedagon Pagoda once from 1.10.2023.)

One tical of pure gold (1 piece) = 2,500,000 MMK
Six tical of pure gold (1 piece) = 15,000,000 MMK
Donation of flowers and vases
The entire Singuttara Hill area will be planted and decorated with beautiful flower garlands and will be donated. We invite you to come and donate flowers and pots of orchids to Horticulture Department.

If you add golden coconut instead of regular coconut, you have to pay 3,000/- (exactly three thousand kyats) more. If it is not sold at the set price, you can report to the Board of Trustees office at 01-375767.
Rules to be followed by attending the upper platform
1. Those attending the upper platform must undergo a security check.
2. Attendees must only attend with a card approved by the Board of Trustees and wear a loose-fitting column shirt (Myanmar dress) in accordance with the rules.
3. To return after paying homage and not to go around in the Upper Platform.
4. Drinking alcohol and smoking are not allowed on the upper platform. Also bringing the lighter and tobacco are not allowed. Report the authorities in need of case.
5. Mobile phones and cameras are not allowed.
6. Enter and exit only through approved gates.
7. If you find gold and jewelry, report it to the nearby staff. (Do not collect by yourself)
8. People under the age of 18 and foreigners are not allowed to attend.
9. Do not bring jewelry items onto the upper platform and If you go up to the upper platform wearing jewelry and get checked when you come back down, it will be kept as property of Pagoda.
10. On the upper platform, the business operators must carry out the work in accordance with the rules and regulations with the prescribed uniform.
Rules and Regulations to be observed by the applicants to make the certificate of worship on the upper Terrace of the Pagoda
- An applicant must submit two 1”x 1.5” size photographs of the applicant along with the application as specified by the Board of Trustees. The photo shows a white shirt with a thin collar and Burmese over-coat and it is a photo taken no more than (date/month) in the past (6-month).
- Those who are still now in the Army, or Police force or Red Cross or City Hall Civil Service or from organization and departments can submit a photo which have been taken in the relevant uniform and apply their application.
- The applicant must put forward a certificate from his place of residencen (ward and township police) that he is a real resident of this ward and that he is of good character.
- The applicant must be a Burmese national who is at least 18 years of age and a Buddhist. Both of the applicant’s parents must be Buddhist Myanmar citizens.
- If the applicant is an employee of a department, the application must an official agreement with the seal of the rellevent department.
- The applicant must present the original National Regisrtion for National Identity Card and purchase the application form. Along with the application form, you must submit a copy of the National Identity Card or a copy of the National Registration Card and a copy of the household register.
- Application must be completed in Burmese language only.
- The permit must be obtained within 2 months from the date of application. It is not allowed to withdraw on behalf of some one. If you do not draw back it within 2 months, you must apply again.
Notice regarding activities as tour guides in Shwedagon Pagoda
- Foot wearing including socks is strictly prohibited on the premises of the pagoda.
- Ladies are requested not to wear shorts skirts and summer dress. (Myanmar ladies wear can be borrowed from the counters.)
- Men are requested not to wear short pants. (Myanmar Lon Gyi wear can be borrowed from the counters.)
- Entrance fees for one person is US $5 and is valid for one visit only. (Not 24 hours)
- Amateur camera and video camera are free from charges. The professional cameras and video cameras, have to pay additional fees of US $3 each.
- Visitors are to pay entrance fees at the respective counters and to ask for entrance tickets and stickers.
- Stickers are to wear in front of the jacket, so that the inspectors can see properly.
Informative warnings about activities as tour guides in Shwedagon Pagoda
- Only those who are officially licensed by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism are authorized to act as tour guides.
- A valid license card must be hung in sight while the tour guide is working.
- On the shwedagon Pagoda platform, if the inspection team follows up and inspests it, it must be inspected honestly.
- If you want to visit the pagoda without a licensed guide, you must be able to show proof to the inspestion team that the person who will explain is the person assigned by the relevant organization.
- It is kindly reminded that those who do not follow the above information will be considered unlicensed tour guides and will be porosecuted in accordance with the Myanmar Hotel and Tourism Law.
