The revered Kassapa Buddha, who resided in the Gandhakuṭi building located within the Western Ārāma Shrine of the Shwedagon Pagoda, was initially represented in a Pañcalohā image in the Bhūmiphassa Mudrā posture. However, on March 6, 1931, a fire broke out in the Western Shrine of the Shwedagon Pagoda, and the original statue was lost in the flames. Consequently, a new stone-carved image was created and enshrined in the newly built Gandhakuṭi building, where it is still worshiped today.
In this Bhaddakappa, Kassapa Buddha was the third of the four Buddhas to have attained enlightenment. Additionally, the sacred bathing robe of Kassapa Buddha is enshrined within the sacred relic chamber of the Shwedagon Pagoda.
