King Tharrawaddy’s Bell is situated at the Sunday corner of the Shwedagon Pagoda. King Tharrawaddy visited the Shwedagon Pagoda on October 3, 1841, and ordered the casting of a large bell in Yangon. He returned to Amarapura on January 22, 1842, but left instructions for his officials to complete the bell. On February 19, 1843, his representatives, including the Maha Sithu and Pantein Wun ministers, donated the bell to the Shwedagon Pagoda.
