The Chanthargyi Buddha image is enshrined near the Victory Ground (Aung Myay) on the Rāhu corner of the Shwedagon Pagoda platform. It was donated in 1882 by U San Tun and Daw Hnit, and it resides in a hall that serves as a retreat during the Buddhist lent. The magnificent Buddha image was curved by the famous sculptor U Nyan. In the past, this Buddha image was commonly known as the “Sunlight-Resilient Buddha.” The Chantha Gyi Buddha Image is over 30 feet tall, making it the tallest and larget Buddha image among those at the Shwedagon Pagoda.
