The Pañcasarūpa statue is a mythical creature created by ancient artists, named in Pāḷi and translated in Myanmar as “pañca” (meaning five) and “rūpa” (physical form). This sculpture combines five different creatures: the trunk (and task) of an elephant, the legs and antlers of a deer, the body and tail of a fish, the wings of a haṁsa-bird, and the head of a lion.
