This pavilion is located between the Monday and Tuesday planetary posts on the eastern side of the Shwedagon Pagoda precincts. It was donated by the prominent trader family of Sir Boe Tha, who also built the northern pavilion. This pavilion is also known as Sein Ma Pu Pavilion. The exterior of the Gandakuṭi Pagoda features images of Pitone (Bumblebee) and Padaing (Datura flowers). The image, referred to as Pitone Padaing Muni in honorific terms, is widely known as the Pitone and Padaing Pavilion. In 1999, the roof was newly renovated, decorated with Myanmar-style elements, and the floor was repaired. The floor was polished again in 2011, and further roof reinforcement took place in 2017. In 2022, restoration work included repairing images and decorations. Statues and platforms within the pavilion are re-gilded with gold leaf every five years as part of an ongoing maintenance plan.
