The statue of the Lokapāla Yakkha Madame is situated at the northern entrance of the Shwedagon Pagoda. It is said that Queen Shin Saw Pu dedicated this statue to guard the pagoda. Originally, Queen Shin Saw Pu donated two statues of Yakkha (guardian spirits), placing one on the left and the other on the right. However, the statue on the right crumbled, leaving only the statue on the left intact. The current statue of the Lokapala Yakkha Madame was restored by the Pagoda Trustees. It is believed that making offerings and prayers to this deity can lead to the fulfillment of wishes. Devotees often offer flowers, incense sticks, Baryani, candles, and donations while praying. If one is unjustly oppressed or if the temple’s treasures are damaged, it is said that one can seek the deity’s intervention. The Lokapala Yakkha Madame is considered to be very powerful.
